Are you wearing a blood diamond?

Aaah..diamond are girl's best friend. That 's what Marilyn Monroe used to chant in her tunes. What are the chances that the diamond you are wearing had costs innocent people's lives? These are the questions that may linger in your mind when you watch the movie Blood Diamond. The diamond that was found in Sierra Leone was used to finance the rebels to buy weapons. And they used it for civil war. In the end the locals are slaughtered like animals. Now, the world know that they should stop buying these 'blood diamonds' because it would only encourage more civil wars. So they had banned to import diamond from Sierra Leone. But little do they know that the diamonds are smuggled to their neighbouring country, Liberia. And there the diamonds are claimed to be of Liberian origin and thus sold to the diamond trader. In this movie, Leornado diCaprio was a smuggler who earn his living through this job. He didn't care for the civil war or the number of people died because of the diamonds that he smuggled. But it was all changed when he met Solomon Vandy, a fisherman, starred by Djimon Hounsou. His village was attacked by the rebels and had his family taken away. He was caught and force to work to find diamonds in that area. At one particular moment, he found big chunk of pink diamond and had it hidden. Danny Archer (Leonardo) has lost his diamond while trying to smuggle it out. Desperate to find a replacement, he promised to Solomon to give him the pink diamond and in return would promised to help him find his son who is kidnapped and turned into a child soldier by the rebels. Maddy Bowen played by Jennifer Connely is an American journalist trying to get some information on the illegal smuggling of the diamonds. She was trying very hard to get the information from Danny so that the people who buys these diamond will get prosecuted. And thus try to end the misery of the locals in Sierra Leone. Danny's later realized that the work he had was wrong and try to make amend by helping Solomon to find his son.

The ending was very touching, and very sad though. Will Solomon able to save his son from the rebels? Will Danny ever get his pink diamond in return and did Maddy get her info for her story? You had to see the movie first. The movie had a few nominations also at the Oscars. The role played by Leonardo and Djimon was breathtaking..a gd standing applause. But, in this movie also I had
realize that we should always be thankful for we have, when you compare myself to the people in Africa who are homeless, no education and in hunger..you will feel thankful that you had those that the people in Africa had not.

Setan Pakai Prada

The movie is great. the title itself is very catchy. The plot is bout a recent graduate from Northwestern who is hunting for a job at the Big Apple. Anyway, her luck struck at the famous fashion magazine company, Runway. However, the boss was not the quite as normal, she is strict, demanding, cruel sophisticated workaholic. Meryl Streep performance as the devil was great, I like her act, especially the ' That's All'..remarks which is the most irritating remark I have heard. Anne Hathaway was the lead actress alongside with this lady..I forgot her name, which is Anne's senior assistant. Her performance was great too, alongside with the Vivienne Westwoods collections that she wore. Anyway, the movie was not the dry type since we can relate it to our working environment. I love the part where Andrea had nearlly gave up trying since her boss was very cruel to her. However, at that moment Nigel made her realize that she is responsible for what she did, and her quality of work was bad mainly because of her. And after that, she worked hard until she is far more superior than her senior. However, the price that she had to pay is the relationships with her friends and lovelife. And the end of it, she left the company because she could not make the choices that violates her own principles..which mainly betraying your colleague. The movie is good really, I done some re-runs a few weeks. Meryl Streep was nominated for best actress for her performance in the upcoming Academy this year, so we'll jus wait for the results. Okaylah, that's all for setan pakai prada..ciao.

This the day to be jolly...the weekend of course

Hey, its me again. I think I am getting a hang of this blogging thing. I can't wait for the end of the day write about the events happened. Anyway, today I am going to speak about. My Singapore trip..i.e. Pulau Sentosa.

It was on Thursday, which is the Thaipusam holiday in JB. I thought of going for a trip. My mother suggested to for a trip to Sentosa. It was a gd idea in the end, it was a nice day trip, but also quite tiring since we had to take a lot of mrt and bus. We went from Larkin terminal and took a bus to Kranji MRT station, then we hop on to the MRT straight to Harbourfront MRT station. Then, we took the canle car trip to the island, but they are several modes of tranport to get there, such as train, car or bus. The cable car trip was nice since we got an aerial view of the Keppel port and the island. We just arrived at the arrival terminal, it was loaded with souvenior shops already. Talking about shopping heaven. They are a lot of attractions there, nut we went to the Butterfly Farm and Insect Museum, which was quite amazing. Then, we hop the bus to get to the Siloso Beach, which looks so clean with the white sandy beaches, although the view is quite spoilt with vessels and ship going to Keppel Port. Anyway, after that we went to the Underwater World which has many species of aquatic animals living under one roof. But the highlight is the underwater tunnel, which is glass tunnel..with an automated moving floor so you could wander at the beauty of the sea creatures all around you. The sharks was cool, I never get to see them so close, the teeth was gruesome. They have also an interactive place which you could touch the fishes!..the starfish was quite stiff though..and till today I never knew that stingrays are nice creatures..apart from the one that killed Steve Irwins. Then day was finish with the trip to the Dolphin Lagoon, which they conducted a series of performance of the pink dolphins. But the dolphins was way far from the audience, so the view was not that close. Oh yeah, I went to Fort Siloso, which apparently the historic site at the Sentosa Island, it was used as fort to fend of enemied during the Second World War. It was an educational trip about Singapore during that particular periood. My history lesson came to application as I saw the events about the Japanese soldiers, the Surrender of Singapore and the fall of the Japanese Empire. Okay, I hope that adequate review. Pictures below are for you to see...

My first time...

Hi..tonight marks the first time I create a blog for me. What I made me to indulge myself in this space is because I saw my friend's blog today and I found it quite interesting to share your stories with friends..doesn't matter if they read or not. But the fact that you are writing it and expressing it is true therapeutic..that's what I thought. Well, I hope this 'activity' would give some excitement in life, since I am still founding one really. Anyway I would like to thank to my friend Zaparel who inspired me to do so.

I began my Wednesday at work today at MMHE. Morning was fine, although still felt a bit lethargic. I woke up early to pick up friend in MMHE Staff Flat because his car was sent for a repair.

Although in the morning was okay at first, suddenly I felt so 'lazy' in the afternoon..no actually it started after 11am. After that..it was work..chat..internet. Maybe I was bored of the work..temporarily. Then I started reading other people's blog esp Zap and his journey in Italy and Europe. I felt I need to do some physical activities to refresh my mind and body. I bought this Pilates workout dvd a few months ago..and yet I haven't started it. Well I did today. It was good, although my muscle was trembling throught out the session. Yeah..it has been ages since I stop swimming and working out. But its a gd step. I think its a cool type of exercise since it doesn't require too much energy and impacy..thus lowering the risk of injury. And the steps require mostly abdominal strength, and I need that..to flatten the tummy. My pants has been feeling tight all this while. I enjoyed it, and wish to do it on alternate days.

I like to share a song which I think is deeply touched me and its called Hurt by Christina Aguilera. The song was co-written by Xtina for her late father. The lyrics mentioned that she regretted for blaming her father for what he had done to her in the past and the more she blames him, the more she felt hurt, hence the title of the song. Her vocal was really good in the song, although it was not the same quality when she sang live at the MTV Music Awards 2006. But deeply touched at the song, what she said in the song was true. The more you blame someone, the more you feel misreable and hurt. So just forgive them.

Here are the lyrics..

Seems like it was yesterday
When I saw your face
You told me how proud you were,
But I walked away
If only I knew what I know today
Ooh, ooh
I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again
Sometimes I wanna call you
But I know you won't be there
Oh, I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you
Some days I feel broke inside
But I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide
'Cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye
When it comes to this, ooh
Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes
And see you looking back
Oh, I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself, oh
If I had just one more day
I would tell you how much that I've missed you
Since you've been away
Ooh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
To try and turn back time
I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself..
By hurting you..

Anyway..till tommorow..enough said.
